A Free, Inclusive, and Resilient Digital Future for the Global South!
Current Projects
Over the past five years, I have critically examined the intersections of information technology and social issues, focusing on China’s digital censorship and surveillance systems, as well as citizens’ circumvention practices. After earning my master's degree, I was fortunate to join the ITU Africa Regional Office in Ethiopia, where I explored the development of digital platforms and infrastructures in the Global South. This experience motivated me to further explore the challenges faced by emerging digital economies in East Africa, which mirror similar issues encountered during China’s digital transformation.
Through collaborations with local researchers and ICT practitioners, I am currently investigating the surveillance risks posed by East Africa’s super apps and digital ID systems. Below are my relevent ongoing projects.
